The "Steel Ladies" Story:
A Few years ago, my best friend Jim Dodds encouraged me to draw a
portrait of a Harley, to donate it to the Hartbauer-McBride foundation,
which raises funds to provide assistance to motorcyclists "in a time of
need or hardship" in the greater St. Louis area.
That was three portraits ago. Each one was auctioned to help raise
funds. This one, "Steel Ladies On Old route 66", merited printing.
The Title pays tribute to two works of Art; the 1928 Chain of Rocks
Bridge and a 1966 Harley-Davidson.
The bridge carried Route 66 traffic over the Mississippi River on the
north edge of St. Louis from 1928 until it's closing in 1968.
Today it is used as a hiking and bicycling trail and for Bald Eagle
observation during winter.
